Performance diagnostic procedures / examinations and tests

In general, the aim of performance diagnostic procedures is to categorise the performance of athletes on the basis of figures. The intention is to be able to make a quantitative statement about the athlete's performance. These procedures cannot make any statements about qualitative performance characteristics. Performance diagnostics therefore only ever depict partial areas of performance (e.g. the endurance performance of a footballer can be determined using the Conconi test; the ability to dribble with the ball or mental strength cannot be recorded).

The aim of performance diagnostics is to determine the current performance of an athlete and to record any changes in performance achieved by repeating the test. It is therefore important that the test procedures are always carried out identically so that the results are also comparable when carried out several times. The results of performance diagnostics are also used for training management, training design and can also be used as a motivational factor.

The tests must fulfil the scientific quality criteria (objectivity, reliability, validity) and should be simple, inexpensive and easy to carry out.
