Army fitness test (FTA)

Fitness test of the military 5 disciplines (FTA5)

The physical fitness of conscripts and members of the Armed Forces is tested during recruitment, at recruit and officer training school and in the training service for the formations (2) with the fitness test of the military 5 disciplines (FTA5). The following disciplines are assessed:

  • Discipline 1: standing long jump

  • Discipline 2: medicine ball kick

  • Discipline 3: one-legged stand

  • Discipline 4: global trunk strength test

  • Discipline 5: endurance test (progressive endurance run)

For the military categorisation, the same table of values applies for male and female conscripts. The military sports award (MSA) can be achieved by completing the FTA5 with the corresponding total score. Women are assessed using a gender-specific scoring table. All five disciplines must be completed for the MSA to be awarded. If possible, the personal evaluation should be discussed individually and also serve as a training guide.

In addition to the above-mentioned practical disciplines, the anthropometric parameters of height, weight and waist circumference are recorded in the FTA5. In addition, an evaluation of sport and exercise behaviour is carried out during recruitment and in the training service for the formations.

Fitness test of the military 3 disciplines (FTA3)

For entry and final tests in schools and training courses as well as on the occasion of the sporting performance promotion of professional cadres, physical fitness is tested with the fitness test of the military 3 disciplines (FTA3). The following disciplines are assessed, whereby the walking test is used exclusively for the sporting performance promotion of professional cadres:

  • Discipline 1: medicine ball kick

  • Discipline 2: global trunk strength test

  • Discipline 3: endurance test (progressive endurance run/walking test)

Women are assessed using a gender-specific table of values. The awarding of the Military Sports Award (MSA) is not possible in the FTA3. If possible, the personal evaluation should be discussed individually and also serve as a training guide.

In addition to the above-mentioned practical disciplines, the anthropometric parameters of height, weight and waist circumference are recorded in the FTA3. In addition, an evaluation of sport and exercise behaviour is carried out during the recruit school entrance test and during the sport performance promotion of the professional squad.
